Types Of Anger Issues

There are several iterations of this explosive disorder:

  • Inward anger is like a mental health condition. A person will bottle angry feelings inside sometimes even denying themselves basic needs.
  • Outward anger can result in a tense situation at any moment. During an angry outburst, a person will show outward aggression, often towards others.
  • Passive anger leads to passive-aggressive behavior. This passive aggression is exemplified by verbal harassment and sarcasm.

What Causes These Aggressive Feelings?

Anger is usually helpful because it can help establish boundaries. The response Is usually immediate and after we have felt mistreated and threatened. Other feelings like guilt can also trigger this emotion besides pain, jealousy, and embarrassment. When this emotion triggers a fight response instead of flight, it can lead to aggression because at this point, the adrenaline is preparing us for a physical altercation.

Some other ways aggression can manifest out of anger issues include:

  • Anger can appear as a symptom of depression. As the underlying issue becomes more severe you are more likely to experience chronic anger and irritability.
  • Alcohol abuse can result in an anger issue. Alcohol addictions are characterized by increased aggression towards yourself and others.
  • Anxiety is another mental health issue that can make your anger worse. Like all mental health disorders, it will make you more irritable.
  • Grief is the most natural response. But, as the grief affects you for a longer period of time, it is more likely to cause aggressive outbursts.

Importance Of Keeping Your Anger In Check

Although anger is completely normal and usually a healthy emotion, when it gets out of control, it can be quite destructive. When you find yourself unable to control your anger and it leads you into destruction, it can ruin your relationships, destroy trust, cause pain, resentment, unforgiveness, and difficulty in having quality in other areas of your life like your health.

Chronic anger can destroy your health. Believe it or not, Chronic anger has been linked to increasing your blood pressure, leading to heart palpitations, headaches, digestion problems, and other physical and mental issues. Chronic anger can even lead to hurting others’ mental and physical health who are around you.

If you’re dealing with uncontrolled anger, you need to be proactive in trying to resolve this powerful emotion or risk dealing with the consequences that come along with it like the law because of hostility and even violence.

Rage that turns itself into violence is the extreme form of anger and it can be shown in many different ways. People who experience this will attempt to isolate themselves away from people or congregate with other like-minded individuals who perpetrate violent tendencies because anger is sometimes used to control others and feel more powerful. Seek help to change your behavior before it ends up controlling you.

You can also use positive techniques to help de-escalate anger by using relaxing techniques. What are some things you find relaxing and enjoy being around that is positive?  Perhaps you enjoy being around water, the mountains, relaxing music, or whatever else that you find enjoyment in. Whatever that is, surround yourself with it to recenter yourself.
